China Part 2

The mission for the day was simple, the last wonder of the world!! We headed out in a bus with 15 other people. The weather did not look promising, it was very foggy and our guide informed us there had been "heavy" snow overnight and the wall might not be safe to walk on. Apparently one week prior 4 Japanese tourists died on the wall cause of snow. We pushed on and on our arrival the sky cleared up and sun came out. It had snowed, about 2cm's and there was some ice under the snow which made some sections tricky to navigate. We weren't put off by it though, it made for some fabulous pictures and an interesting experience. We hiked about 4kms down the wall on a rebuilt section. When we arrived at the unrestored section we had to stop as it was too slippery to carry on. It is an incredible wall, the photos really don't do it justice, we walked 0.04% of the total length of the wall, 10000kms! A very impressive wonder. In the true spirit of China we got some classic photos in our 100% legit panda hats, striking poses that we observed during our stay here. It also worked out perfectly cause this was our 8th wonder, and 4 peace signs adds to 8, we found this quite amusing. We spent a few hours on the wall and then jumped back on the bus and headed back to Beijing.

We headed out for dinner, craving something other than noodles and fried food we went to a sushi place we had seen earlier that week. We were not too sure what to expect but it turned out to be incredible!

The next day we had a little sleep in and made our way to Tianamen Square and the forbidden city. To be honest it was underwhelming, I think after seeing all the wonders of the world and countless other temples, palaces, forts, churches and so on and so forth, we had had enough! We nonetheless wandered around a little then headed back to the hotel. At the room we had a bottle of "Great Wall" wine, not very good but the novelty in the name that is why we bought it.  We then headed out to an acrobatic show. It was 90 minutes of truly incredible stunts!!! Very cool experience for sure.

Our last full day in Beijing was sort of uneventful, we relaxed for most of the day at the hotel as it was cold out and we were tired of exploring. For lunch we had sushi again which was not as good as the first time but sill delicious. In the evening we went for Peking Duck at a restaurant, DaDong. We ordered a full duck which came with crepe like wraps, sauces, and some vegetables. One of the waitresses gave us a quick tutorial on how to eat it properly and off we went. What an incredible meal!!! Soooo delicious. For dessert we had tempura fried apple balls cooked in a candy sugar. After all that food both of us stuffed we headed back to the hotel to pack and prepare to leave for Thailand.
