We arrived in Bangkok in the late evening and checked into our hotel, then Bajoike Ski Hotel. Checked into our room on the 59thm floor and headed down for dinner. We decided to just eat at the hotel as it getting late already and we had to be up at 330am to go back to the airport for our fight to Koh Samui. Needless to say we had an early night and tried to get some sleep.
We caught our flight and then hopped on the ferry and headed to Koh Tao, ours home for the next week. We arrived around 10am and checked into our honeymoon suite. What an incredible place, we have a bungalow over the water with our own patio and infinity pool. We also have a gorgeous view of the beach and bay around us. Our first day here was low key, we checked out the resort a little and checked out a few dive shops.
The next day we had a slow start, it was raining very hard and we were in no rush to race out. We headed for breakfast and relaxed watching the rain and hoping it would pass. We finally decided the rain was there to stay for the day so we booked our complimentary Thai massage and headed to the spa. Lindsey has many massages, I never been much for them but I will admit it was all that had. After our hour of bliss we went into town to find a dive shop we had heard about. Most places don't to go to Sail Rock a dive site famous for bull sharks this time of year because of rough water. However, we had heard that Roctopus Dive Shop still did. We found them and discovered they were going on a night dive that night just off our beach. We booked with them as we have not done a night dive in years and the last one we did was spectacular! On the way back to our hotel Lindsey stopped in for a pedicure and we decided to rent a scooter for the rest of the week as it is easier to get around that way. We then met our dive instructor at the beach and headed out. We arrived at the dive site and one group jumped in first, almost immediately they all started screaming. Everyone on the boat thought they were joking around. However, we soon discovered there was thousands of jelly fish in the water, not poisonous but they still sting. They quickly got out of the water and we went to a different dive site, again filled with jelly fish. We went to a third place that was jelly fish free but turned out not to be a very great site. We saw a few fish, a couple of crabs, a hermit crab, blue spotted ray, and a couple interesting sea stars.
We were up early the next day to go diving again. The first site we headed to named Chumpon is known for Whale Shark sightings. The past few days they had been seeing a small one there. I have been waiting to see a whale shark for 5 years. We got geared up and headed down. Only 15 minutes into the dive we discovered a whale shark a young one and only 4 meters long but still INCREDIBLE!!!! It swam around us for a bit and then vanished into the blue. The rest of the dive was also very beautiful and we saw a great variety of fish. Our next dive we went to a wreck they just sank 18 months ago. It is still in great shape, an old battle ship with the turrets intact and everything. After we finished diving we headed back to our luxury condo for a couple of beers in our pool and some R&R in the sun. For dinner we had barracuda steak and tuna, both amazing meals. We tried to meet up with some people we had dived with that day but did not find them so we played some pool at a beach bar and had a few beverages. On our way back to the hotel we ran into a guy selling the floating candles, you write your good intentions or wishes on them and then let it float away. We wrote a little message with our wedding anniversary on it and a wish for my mom to be cancer free. It was an amazing experience to watch it float away, we watched it for at least 20minutes it was as small as a star and then it vanished.
We went diving again this morning, first dive back at Chumpon. Unfortunately this time there was no whale shark but still a fantastic dive. Our second dive site was Green Rock. A very cool dive where you swim through a bunch of caves and passages. This afternoon we have been relaxing again at our pool and Lindsey has just headed out for another massage before dinner. So far Koh Tao has been a great end to a wild adventure! Hoping to dive at Sail Rock on Sunday, weather permitting.... Stay tuned.
