Day 2 in Cuzco was a fantastic success. We headed out in the morning and had an amazing breakfast at a little cafe. From there we decided to head up to sacsayhuaman, Mayan ruins just outside of Cuzco. We had walked about half way up the hill and we ran into a fellow named Santos, he made us a deal we couldnt refuse so we ended up going for a horse back ride to some other ruins behind Sacsayhuaman. We spent 2 hours riding around the country side and stopped at two different places. The first one was just some massive rocks with huge crevasses in them that you could walk through, very cool! The second stop was the Mayan lunar temple. We had an absolute blast on the horses. On our way back down to town we stopped at "blanco christo" a miniature version of the Christ redeemer statue in brazil, had a beautiful view of Cuzco from there. On our walk back into town we stopped at a little patio and had Mayan corn with cheese, the kernels were massive and the corn was not very tasty but we tried it nonetheless. In the afternoon we found ourselves exploring a chocolate museum. We tasted some chocolate tea and raw cocoa beans and learned about how it was made. We bought some samples of chocolate and a bottle of peruvian wine and headed to our hotel to relax for a bit. That evening we went to the Peruvian version of Swiss chalet, probably the best rotisserie chicken ever. The peruvians love that style of chicken. We had a pretty early night, still recovering from the journey down here.
Today we booked our last couple of bus trips that we needed for later on in the trip and then we hopped onto a local collectivo to Ollantaytambo. We arrived here around 2pm had a quick lunch and found our hotel. The main ruins here are expensive, about $60 for the two of us. We saw some ruins across the valley that were higher up the hill and a bit of a hike so we decided to go see if we could get up there. It was absolutely incredible when we got up there. The view was breath taking and we were the only people up there. We decided to hang out until sunset, unfortunately the sunset was not too impressive. And the best part is it was FREE!
We are just about to head out for some dinner now, we are both soooo excited for tomorrow. We get up at 5am to catch the train and we head up to our second wonder of the world, machu picchu first for this trip.
