Yesterday we had a great sleep in for once. We eventually got up and got moving. We went to a flea market not too far away, one of the biggest in Europe and only open on Sundays. It was amazing, once you were in it there was no way out so you just had to walk to the end, I am guessing it was at least 10 or 12 city blocks long, maybe more. Surprisingly we only walked out of there spending 3 euros, 1 euro on a little hair dryer for Lindsey and 2 euros on a bottle of water haha.
Once we found a way out of there we headed on a mission to find some lunch. Eventually settled on a place and had some more delicious pizza, it is sooooo good here. Once we had our fill of food we decided to head out and take in a few of the sites.
Our first stop was at Piazza Venezia, we wondered through some old ruins and arrived at the piazza which is the centre of Rome. From the balcony of the main building we had views of the coliseum, the roman forum, palatine hill and much more. We spent some time there admiring the architecture and the sculptures surrounding the area.
We then headed towards Trevi Fountain. As we got closer the crowds got bigger. Not sure if it was because it was a Sunday but it was a mad house when we finally arrived at the amazing fountain. We were able to push our way to the front and throw a couple of coins over our shoulders into the fountain. We got some pictures and then we quickly ducked into a nearby gelato shop for a tasty snack. The winning flavour was Lindsey's lemon gelato.
We continued our wandering a down the narrow streets of Rome and eventually found the Pantheon, a temple originally built to worship all the ancient gods of Rome and since the 7th century has been used by the Roman Catholics. It is an incredible well preserved building words can't really do it justice.
After taking in the pantheon we walked to Piazza Navona. The entire area was littered with artists an there workings. We found a great painting of some wine bottles and grapes but it was quite large and we could not think of where we would put it so we passed, this time.
Just heading out for the day now to see wonder # 4.
