Wonder #2- Machu Picchu

We got up bright and early at 445am to have a quick breakfast and then we headed down the road to the train station to catch our 610am train to Agua Calientes (which means hot water because there are some natural hot springs there). When we arrived we had to get in line for bus tickets and then in line for the bus, then in line to get through the gate, we were both a little frustrated. When we finally arrived at Machu Picchu it was all worth it, what an incredible place. Machu Picchu is definitely worthy of being one of the 7 wonders! It is pretty amazing even to this day what remains up there and the shear vastness of this inca fortress is breath taking. And the best part of the ruins is where they are located... they are built into the mountains and hundreds of meters from the valley below. We had decent luck with the weather, it was a little cloudy, and had some mild rain on and off. We had bought tickets to go up Montana Machu Picchu but it was far too cloudy at the peak so we spent our time wandering around the ruins and taking photos. After a couple of hours we decided to walk back to Agua Calientes about a 45min straight down hill for the most part. By that time it had started to really start raining so we lucked out with the weather when we were up top. We got back with some time to spare so we had a coffee and then wandered around the market areas for a bit. Eventually we hopped back on the train and headed back to Ollantaytambo, it was an interesting train ride back including entertainment of a peruvian fashion show! We ended up hiring a taxi to take us back to Cuzco, a young guy named Brian. He was awesome, he waited for us while we bought an amazing oil painting of Machu Picchu from a lady in Ollantaytambo. ( Which was bought from a amazingly kind woman who runs the shop with her husband) Our taxi driver Brian, spoke excellent English so we picked his brain about Peru all the way back to Cuzco.

By the time we arrived back in Cuzco we were both exhausted, we had a quick dinner and headed back to Nino's for a good sleep.
